Version 1.1 · Last updated: 17 August 2026 · Operator: Charmaine Swinburn trading as EquiCloset
1. Eligibility to Sell
1.1 To list items on EquiCloset you must: have a verified EquiCloset account; be at least 18 years old; be selling as a private individual and not as a commercial trader (unless you have a separate commercial agreement with us).
1.2 By listing an item, you confirm that: you are the legal owner of the item or have the right to sell it; the item is not subject to any finance agreement, lien, or third-party claim; the item complies with our Prohibited Items Policy.
2. Your Listings
2.1 You are responsible for the accuracy of every listing you create. Your listing must: accurately describe the item’s condition, size, brand, and any defects or signs of wear; include clear, accurate photographs of the actual item (not stock photos); state the correct item category; provide accurate parcel size and weight so that the correct delivery price and courier can be calculated.
2.2 You must not: create duplicate listings for the same item; use misleading titles or descriptions; include brand names you do not own to attract searches (keyword stuffing); list items that are prohibited under our Prohibited Items Policy.
2.3 EquiCloset may remove listings that breach these Terms or our policies without notice.
3. Fees and Payouts
3.1 No seller fee. EquiCloset charges no commission or listing fee to sellers. You receive 100% of your item price.
3.2 Buyer Protection Fee. The Buyer Protection Fee is charged to the buyer, not deducted from your payout. Buyers pay: UK: £1.99 + 7.5% of the item price. SA: R12.99 + 7.5% of the item price.
3.3 Delivery. The buyer pays for delivery. EquiCloset calculates the delivery price from the parcel size and weight you provide, and arranges and pays for the courier label. The delivery charge is not paid to you and is not deducted from your item price — you are responsible only for packaging the item securely and dispatching it on time.
3.4 How payouts work. EquiCloset pays sellers directly by bank transfer. You do not need a Stripe account, a Peach Payments account, or any external payment account. Payouts are sent to the bank account you register in your seller settings.
3.5 Adding your bank account. Before requesting a payout, you must save your bank account details in your seller settings:
- UK sellers: sort code and 8-digit account number
- SA sellers: bank name, branch code, account number, and account type (cheque/savings/transmission)
You are responsible for ensuring your bank details are accurate. EquiCloset is not liable for payouts sent to an incorrectly entered account.
3.6 Requesting a payout. Once an order is complete and the buyer protection window has passed, your balance appears as “Available to request” in your payouts dashboard. Click “Request payout” to submit a payout request. EquiCloset reviews and processes payout requests manually.
3.7 Payout timing. Once approved, payouts are typically sent within 2 business days (UK: Faster Payments or BACS) or 2–3 business days (SA: EFT). Processing times depend on your bank.
3.8 Payment processing fees. Your payment processor (Stripe for UK buyers, Peach Payments for SA buyers) deducts a small fee from the total payment received. This is deducted before your payout amount is calculated and is shown in your payout detail.
4. Dispatch Requirements
4.1 You must dispatch sold items within 3 business days of receiving notification that the sale has been confirmed and payment received.
4.2 A countdown timer is shown on your sale detail page to help you track your dispatch deadline.
4.3 You must: package items securely to prevent damage in transit; use a tracked and insured service where possible; enter tracking information into the EquiCloset platform promptly after dispatch.
4.4 Failure to dispatch within 3 business days may result in order cancellation and a refund to the buyer. Repeated late dispatch may result in account restrictions.
5. Item Condition and Safety
5.1 You are responsible for ensuring that items you sell are: accurately described; safe to use; free from serious defects not disclosed in the listing.
5.2 Safety-critical items (air jackets/inflatable vests): If you list an air jacket or inflatable safety vest, you must: disclose whether the CO&sub2; cartridge has been activated; disclose the manufacture date; note any visible wear or damage to the bladder, harness, or trigger mechanism. Buyers of safety equipment rely on accurate information. Failure to disclose known defects in safety items may constitute misrepresentation.
5.3 You must not list items that are: illegal to sell in the buyer’s jurisdiction; banned or recalled; counterfeit or infringing intellectual property rights; prohibited under our Prohibited Items Policy.
6. After the Sale
6.1 Once a buyer has purchased your item, you must not: cancel the sale without a valid reason; accept payment outside the EquiCloset platform; communicate with the buyer outside the platform to arrange alternative payment.
6.2 If you need to cancel an order before dispatch, contact us at [email protected]. The buyer will be refunded in full. Repeated cancellations may result in account restrictions.
6.3 Once a buyer reports an issue under Buyer Protection, EquiCloset may place funds in dispute. You must cooperate with any investigation and provide information or evidence requested within 5 business days.
7. Tax Responsibilities
7.1 EquiCloset is a C2C platform for private sales. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with any tax obligations that arise from your selling activity in your jurisdiction.
7.2 In the UK: HMRC publishes a “trading allowance” of £1,000 per tax year for income from occasional trading. If your gross selling income exceeds this threshold, you may need to register for Self Assessment. We recommend checking the HMRC website or consulting a tax adviser.
7.3 In South Africa: SARS has guidance on side-hustle income. If your selling activity generates income above the tax threshold, you may have an obligation to declare it. Consult a tax adviser if you are unsure.
7.4 EquiCloset may be required by law to report seller transaction data to tax authorities (e.g., under DAC7 in the UK from 2024). By selling on EquiCloset, you consent to such reporting where legally required.
8. Enforcement
Breaches of these Seller Terms may result in: listing removal; account suspension; permanent account closure; recovery of costs caused by your breach.
Appeals may be submitted to [email protected] within 14 days of any enforcement action.
