Platform reporting
Digital marketplaces may have to collect and verify a seller's legal name, address, date of birth, tax identifier, business details and transaction totals, and report them to tax authorities. UK reporting exceptions can depend on both the number and value of goods sales. See HMRC's digital-platform reporting guidance.
Your own tax position
Selling personal possessions does not automatically mean tax is due. Trading activity, profits, business status and local thresholds may change the position. EquiCloset does not provide personal tax advice; consult HMRC, SARS or a qualified adviser.
Security and retention
Tax identifiers are encrypted at rest, masked in the account interface, restricted to authorised compliance functions and retained only for legal, reporting and audit periods.
Keep details current
Sellers must provide accurate information and update it when their legal name, address, tax residency, business or VAT status changes.
